OUR FOUNDING STORY

a commitment to conscious living and community

That Sustainable Collective—founded by sustainability professionals Monica and Praveen—began its journey on World Environment Day in 2016. United by a deep commitment to protecting our planet, we have always believed that conscious, ethical living is not only possible but deeply fulfilling. Our vision extends beyond products and services to foster a community where authenticity and transparency are core values, and where every member feels connected to our mission.

Today, That Sustainable Collective has evolved into a shared creative space, showcasing our work as artists while carrying forward the same principles of sustainability. Monica’s intuitive watercolour paintings and Praveen’s wildlife conservation photography reflect our belief that art can celebrate nature, inspire curiosity, and deepen our connection to the planet. This website serves as our portfolio, where our creativity, love for nature, and mindful practice come together under one vision: two creatives, one purpose.

While you explore our galleries, you’ll notice that sustainability remains at the heart of our work. From the materials Monica carefully chooses for her watercolours to the conscious approach Praveen takes in capturing wildlife, every piece reflects our ongoing commitment to ethical, mindful living. Some of our small artworks and photo prints are even available locally at Fika, a cozy coffee shop in Victoria, allowing the community to connect with our creations in everyday spaces.

At That Sustainable Collective, we continue to embrace intersectional environmentalism, recognizing how social and environmental issues intertwine in our work toward a better world. Each painting, photograph, and creative effort serves as an invitation to join us in celebrating mindful living, nurturing joy, and building a deeper connection with nature — and with each other.

We gratefully acknowledge that we currently live, play, and work on the unceded traditional territory of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples, known as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations. We honor and respect the rich history, cultural heritage, and ongoing contributions of the Indigenous communities who have stewarded this land for generations. We are committed to learning, listening, and standing in solidarity with these Nations as we continue our operations on this sacred land. We also express our gratitude to the Old Growth Trees that once stood strong, supporting the livelihood of humans and animals, before being sacrificed to create space for our present-day operations. We are privileged to inherit the genetic gifts from our elders who protected our culture, revered nature, and harnessed the benefits of biodiversity and forest.
